Movie Camps

From 2009 to 2018, Koan Arts ran annual residential Movie Camps for young people with learning and physical disabilities. These each offered a creative and social break for around 20 young people with additional needs (owing to learning, physical or sensory disabilities, or life-limiting conditions).

Socializing, learning new skills (film-making, animation, acting, singing, arts and crafts) and the fun and games made Movie Camps extremely popular. The camps culminated in a special dinner and cabaret where participants had the opportunity to show off their performance skills.

At Movie Camp, participants learn how to plot and develop a film script, create sound effects and music, act in and shoot their films.

The film below is an example from Movie Camp 4. It is an homage to Indiana Jones style films and was made over four days with a team of thirty five adults including filmmakers, volunteers and staff.
